SUMMARY:Healthy Environments for Learning Day 2024
DESCRIPTION:The 2024 Healthy Environments for Learning Day (HELD) campaign will focus on Indoor Air Quality in Canada’s schools and child care settings. Indoor Air Quality plays a critical role in shaping children’s respiratory health\, immune function\, and cognitive development. This campaign is an opportunity to address topics such as learnings from COVID-19 about the importance of ventilation\, vehicle diesel exhaust\, radon\, harmful chemicals in products\, as well as wildfire smoke and other climate change issues. \nWe are excited to be launching a national speakers series and co-creating this campaign with a diverse group of collaborators and organizations! \nLearn more: \nHealthy Environments for Learning Day \n \n

DESCRIPTION:Join this virtual event to learn about the effects of air pollutants on children’s brain development and learning. Dr. Lanphear will discuss the impacts of toxins on children’s health\, including the impact of low dose exposure to toxins on brain development\, learning\, and behaviour. Dr. Carlsten will share his findings on air pollution-related health effects\, with a focus on diesel exhaust and brain function. \nRegister for this free virtual event here: https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_NESRxADIS46-73cOR-yWzg \nSpeakers & Bios\nDr. Bruce Lanphear  \nBruce Lanphear\, MD\, MPH is a Professor in the Faculty of Health Sciences at Simon Fraser University. His research focuses on understanding the impact of toxic chemicals on children’s health\, especially from exposures that occur during early brain development. Bruce co-founded Little Things Matter to disseminate new science to protect children from toxic chemicals and expand the focus of policy to prevent disease and disability. \nDr. Chris Carlsten \nChris Carlsten\, MD\, MPH\, is a Professor of Medicine\, Canada Research Chair in Occupational and Environmental Lung Disease and holds the Astra-Zeneca Chair in Occupational and Environmental Lung Disease at the University of British Columbia. He is the Head of UBC Respiratory Medicine\, Director of the Air Pollution Exposure Laboratory as well as the Legacy for Airway Health. \nAbout the HELD 2024 Speakers Series: \nCPCHE is pleased to present a series of interactive events to help build awareness and catalyze action on key aspects of indoor air quality in schools and child care settings\, in the lead-up to Healthy Environments for Learning Day in Canada (April 25\, 2024). These free online events are a great opportunity for parents\, educators\, administrators\, policy-makers and others to gain evidence-informed and practical knowledge on the ‘why’ and ‘how’ of tackling indoor air quality concerns in early learning and school settings. \nLearn more: https://healthyenvironmentforkids.ca/held/N \nNote: The events will be in English. Recordings will be posted on the CPCHE/HELD website in English and French (subtitles). \nWe look forward to seeing you there!
