About
CPCHE and the Prenatal Environmental Heath Education Collaboration are co-leading a joint initiative, Prenatal Environmental Health Education in Canada: Collaborating for Clinical and Community Action (PEHE-CCC or “PEHE Triple-C”). This work is funded through the federal Chemicals Management Plan, with the Canadian Association of Nurses for the Environment (CANE) serving as lead partner. Learn more
PEHE-CCC is bringing together partners from clinical care, public health, environmental health, and community organizations to strengthen prenatal environmental health in Canada and build upon the work of the PEHE Collaboration.
The aims of the initiative are to:
- Support health professional associations to integrate environmental health education into prenatal care
- Build capacity among frontline services and community organizations to address environmental health risks (including but not limited to toxic chemicals), environmental justice, and health equity in their day-to-day work
- Advance advocacy efforts to prevent and reduce risks from environmental exposures to reproductive, fetal and child health
The project engages national and community partners, centering grounded/lived expertise, to make environmental health a routine part of prenatal care and community support. It will consist of the Setting the Stage webinar series, followed by Gathering Insights conversations with health associations and community partners. The findings of these conversations will inform a provisional strategy that will provide a foundation for collaborative action.
