Join this virtual event to learn about climate-related health risks impacting indoor environmental quality and children’s health and well-being. Speakers will address the health impacts of wildfire smoke on children’s health, protective measures to reduce wildfire smoke exposures, climate-related mental health impacts in Canada, as well as extreme heat within schools and child care settings, relevant policies and bylaws, and policy gaps relating to extreme heat.

Speakers & Bios

Dr. Eric Coker
Eric Coker is a Senior Scientist with the British Columbia Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) Environmental Health Services program. He has expertise in environmental epidemiology with areas of focus on children’s environmental health, with an emphasis on assessing prenatal and early-childhood exposures and the health effects of environmental chemical mixtures.

Dr. Katie Hayes
Katie Hayes is Senior Policy Analyst at Health Canada’s Climate Change and Innovation Bureau and the lead author for the mental health and climate change chapter for the National Climate Change and Health Assessment report led by Health Canada. Her PhD research explored the mental health consequences of climate change, with a specific focus on addressing the inequitable risks and impacts on marginalized groups.

Jacqueline Wilson
Jacqueline Wilson is counsel at Canadian Environmental Law Association. She has represented clients before various provincial and federal administrative tribunals, and has appeared at all levels of Ontario and federal Courts. She specializes in climate change, energy and land use planning. She received her JD from the University of Toronto in 2010.
