Why is this important?
Indoor dust is a complex mixture of particles and chemicals. Shoes can track outdoor contaminants into the indoor space. Removing shoes at the door helps to minimize the soil, dirt, bacteria and associated chemicals and other contaminants tracked indoors. This is especially important in infant and toddler care rooms.
What actions can we take?
- Require staff members, children and parents/ guardians to remove outdoor footwear before entering.
- Have children wear dedicated “indoor” shoes or non-slip socks or slippers.
